Burkina Faso’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, announced the deployment of the first units of the joint Sahel Alliance force, which brings together Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
He confirmed that the organizational structure of the force has been finalized, with Niger’s capital, Niamey, designated as its headquarters.
Burkina Faso’s first battalion is now fully operational, while a second one is still in training and expected to be ready within two months. Each member state is procuring its own military equipment under agreed common standards.
Traoré added that the three armies are already conducting joint counterterrorism operations and have demonstrated strong coordination capacity.
