Guinea-Bissau’s Supreme Court has disqualified the opposition coalition “Pai Terra Ranka” from the upcoming parliamentary elections, citing the late submission of its candidates’ files.
According to a judicial source, the electoral law requires nominations to be filed at least 72 hours before the September 25 deadline, noting that the Court “did not have enough time to review the large number of late applications.”
The coalition, which brings together around ten political parties, rejected the ruling and said it would seek clarification from the Supreme Court.
Its leader, Domingos Simões Pereira, who is also running separately in the presidential race, recently returned to the country after a nine-month absence.
