Nepalese President Ram Chandra Paudel has dissolved Parliament and scheduled new elections for March 5, 2026, in response to the country’s ongoing political crisis.
The move came just hours after the appointment of Sushila Karki, former Chief Justice, as interim Prime Minister to lead a transitional government.
The crisis followed a week of mass protests that forced former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to resign.
In a statement, the presidency said the decision was made under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, aiming to break the current deadlock and pave the way for a new electoral process to restore stability.
