Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced on Sunday the killing of seven al-Shabaab militants during a planned military operation in the village of Bulo, located in the Buq Aqable district of Hiran region, central Somalia.
According to a statement carried by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the operation also resulted in the destruction of two trucks loaded with weapons, with all militants on board confirmed dead.
The agency emphasized that the operation was executed successfully following close surveillance of the group’s movements and verified intelligence.
This mission is part of ongoing security efforts by Somali forces, in collaboration with international partners, to track down al-Shabaab remnants in central and southern Somalia.
Hiran region has seen an escalation in military activity against al-Shabaab, an Islamist militant group that seeks to overthrow the Somali government and enforce a hardline interpretation of Islamic law.
Authorities urged civilians to cooperate with security forces and avoid areas suspected of being used by armed groups.
