The G7 summit held in Kananaskis, Canada, concluded amid sharp divisions over the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as over U.S. trade policies under President Donald Trump.
Despite the tensions, the leaders issued a joint statement reaffirming their support for Israel’s security and rejecting any possibility of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. The communiqué also called for a ceasefire in Gaza and urged de-escalation across the region.
President Trump left the summit early, prompting speculation about his unease with certain parts of the final statement, particularly those backed by European leaders.
The summit ultimately highlighted growing rifts within the group on key global issues, underscoring the challenges facing the G7’s ability to present a united front in times of international crisis.
