American billionaire Elon Musk, owner of SpaceX, announced that the satellite-based internet service “Starlink” is now active for the Iranian people, responding to recent internet restrictions imposed by the Iranian government.
On Friday, Iranian authorities enforced a broad crackdown on internet access, including a complete ban on the messaging app WhatsApp. Users across the country reported severe disruptions, including total or partial outages, extremely slow browsing, and difficulty accessing websites and apps.
The move came shortly after Israel launched its “Rising Lion” airstrike campaign targeting military, nuclear, and residential areas inside Iran.
American broadcaster Mark Levin had publicly called on Musk during an appearance on Fox News’s “Hannity” show to activate Starlink for Iranians. Musk replied on X (formerly Twitter), confirming: “The internet service is active.”
This initiative echoes Musk’s earlier interventions in conflict zones like Ukraine and highlights the growing role of satellite technology in supporting populations under digital repression.
