Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has announced that Brigadier Musa Uba, commander of the Civil Joint Task Force, was killed by Boko Haram militants while being held captive.
The incident followed an ambush on the officer’s convoy last Friday in the Lake Chad region of Borno State, which also left four soldiers dead.
Tinubu offered his condolences to the army and the families of the victims, expressing his “deep sorrow over the tragic loss of soldiers and officers in active service.”
The presidential announcement comes a day after Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the operation, while the Nigerian military has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Tinubu also directed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State, urging citizens to cooperate in sharing information to strengthen security.
