Qatar has announced the appointment of Ali Al-Thawadi, Minister of Strategic Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, as its representative on Gaza’s Executive Council, a move reflecting Doha’s continued active role in regional and international mediation efforts aimed at de-escalation and achieving sustainable peace.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Qatar’s International Media Office said the appointment comes as part of Qatar’s ongoing support for international efforts to strengthen effective governance in Gaza and to work toward long-term peace, stability and prosperity for its population.

The statement said Qatar continues to play a pivotal role in mediating between Israel and Hamas, in coordination with international partners, with the aim of defusing tensions and supporting political solutions. It added that Al-Thawadi has been one of the key figures in these efforts, leading sustained dialogue with various parties.

According to the statement, these efforts contributed to the release of a number of hostages, the facilitation of vital humanitarian aid deliveries to Palestinians, and assistance in reaching ceasefire agreements.

The International Media Office also highlighted Al-Thawadi’s central role in Qatar’s contribution to U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza.

Under the statement, Al-Thawadi will, through his membership on Gaza’s Executive Council, continue to support ongoing peace efforts on behalf of Qatar, alongside other international initiatives, reinforcing Doha’s position as a key mediator in one of the region’s most complex files.
