Four members of Nigeria’s security forces were killed in an ambush carried out by fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the northeast of the country.
The attackers, armed with heavy weapons, targeted a motorcycle patrol convoy near the village of Wajirko in Borno State, seizing 17 motorcycles, according to military sources and UN reports.
The incident is the latest in a series of assaults on Nigerian security forces, underscoring the persistent threat posed by ISWAP despite its ongoing rivalry with Boko Haram for influence in the region.
Since 2009, the insurgency has left more than 40,000 people dead, displaced two million others, and spread instability to neighboring countries.
