The disappearance of former Burkinabè lawmaker Adja Zoungrana in mid-September near the Ghana-Burkina Faso border has sparked controversy amid conflicting accounts.
Some media outlets reported that Zoungrana was abducted during the night of September 13–14, while other accounts circulating on social media suggest she was either detained by Ghanaian security forces or kidnapped by armed men from Burkina Faso.
Living in exile in Côte d’Ivoire, Zoungrana is known for her shifting political stances toward the Burkinabè authorities — initially supporting Ibrahim Traoré’s rule before turning into an outspoken critic, citing a decline in public freedoms.
Her unexplained disappearance adds further complexity to the political and regional landscape, as neither Ghanaian nor Burkinabè authorities have confirmed the incident, and Ghana’s press has remained silent.
