The U.S. ambassador to Turkey, Tom Beric, announced on Friday that Israel and Syria had agreed to a ceasefire in Suwayda province after a week of deadly clashes that claimed over 300 lives.
According to Beric, the agreement was backed by Turkey, Jordan, and other neighboring countries, as stated on his official X account.
An Israeli official confirmed that the country had approved limited entry of Syrian forces into Suwayda within 48 hours to end the violence, emphasizing the need to protect the Druze minority.
The Syrian presidency also announced the deployment of a specialized unit to halt the fighting, along with political measures aimed at restoring stability.
The region has witnessed escalating violence between Druze fighters and Bedouin tribes. The Syrian Network for Human Rights reported 321 deaths, including many civilians.
Syria’s emergency minister said more than 500 people had received treatment and hundreds of families were evacuated from the conflict zones.
Notably, Israel recently launched airstrikes near Damascus and has expressed support for Syria’s Druze community.
