Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Monday denied any tensions with Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, during the official reception of the National Dialogue’s final report.
“Ousmane Sonko is a friend. There is no conflict between us,” Faye stated in his first public response to Sonko’s recent remarks.
He emphasized his focus on meeting the expectations of the Senegalese people, saying he and the Prime Minister are working “hand in hand” to address citizens’ daily challenges. “Our compass is the people’s aspirations,” he affirmed.
His comments come days after Sonko criticized what he described as “a weakness in authority,” accusing the president of remaining silent in the face of opposition attacks—remarks that had stirred speculation about growing friction within the executive branch.
