The Nigerian Armed Forces have thwarted an attempt to bomb a strategic bridge linking the towns of Marte and Dikwa in Borno State, northern Nigeria, after uncovering a large cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by terrorist groups beneath the structure.
According to a military statement, specialized bomb disposal teams successfully detected and safely dismantled 56 IEDs. Clearance operations are ongoing to neutralize any remaining threats and secure the perimeter around the vital site.
The army emphasized that the operation averted a potential attack that could have caused significant human and material losses, and ensured the safety of key infrastructure connecting critical regions.
This move comes amid ongoing confrontations between Nigerian forces and terrorist groups operating in the country’s north, which increasingly rely on IEDs to target both civilians and military assets.
