The African Childcare Conference has opened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme: “Strengthening Partnerships to Accelerate Inclusive and Quality Care for Africa’s Children.”
In her keynote address, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie emphasized the urgent need to build integrated childcare systems across Africa — the world’s youngest continent, home to over 650 million children today, a number expected to exceed one billion by mid-century.
The conference focuses on mobilizing all stakeholders to develop comprehensive child care policies and boost investment in this vital sector, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
It also aims to enhance cooperation between governments, regional and international organizations, and the private sector to ensure affordable, high-quality care services for all African children.
The event serves as a platform to increase public awareness and political support for early childhood development programs, and to launch joint initiatives to improve care systems across the continent, paving the way for a better future for Africa’s rising generations.
