At least 68 African migrants were killed and 47 others injured in US airstrikes targeting a detention center in Saada, northern Yemen, according to a statement from the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Interior.
The ministry claimed that the “deliberate” airstrikes struck a facility housing 125 migrants, which was reportedly operating under the supervision of international humanitarian organizations.
Local aid workers described the scene as horrific, with mutilated bodies pulled from the rubble and severely injured victims rushed to nearby hospitals. Field reports also indicated several cases of amputations due to the severity of the blast injuries.
The International Organization for Migration denied having active operations at the site but expressed “deep concern” over the reported casualties. The International Committee of the Red Cross called for adherence to international humanitarian law, stating that its teams are assessing urgent needs.
A Houthi spokesperson labeled the attack a “war crime” and vowed to respond to what he described as “American aggression.”
The incident comes amid escalating tensions, as US forces have recently carried out multiple airstrikes on Houthi-held positions in northern Yemen.
