The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC).
The MOU was signed to foster bilateral relationship aimed at enhancing economic growth for both countries.
Mr Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of NCS made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Maiwada said that the service`s Comptroller-General (C-G), Adewale Adeniyi, led some of his management team to sign the MOU in China on May 8.
The C-G attended the 6th World Customs Organisation (WCO) Global Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) conference in Shenzhen, China, from May 8 to 10, 2024.
The C-G was quoted expressing confidence that the MOU would serve as a critical component of the cooperative security and trade relationship between the customs` agencies of the two nations.
“The relationship will create a cooperative mechanism for NCS and the GACC to collaborate on supply chain security standards and enhance the economic stability of both nations, “he said.
He said that the MOU would enhance import-export operations between the two countries and support the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.
According to the statement, Adeniyi appreciated Wang Lingjun, the Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, for showing interest in signing the MoU with the NCS.
He also applauded the recent exponential rise in the development of e-commerce, saying “We know a lot of Nigerian companies and SMEs take advantage of the opportunities aided through e-commerce.”
On his part, Lingjun expressed hope that the affiliation between the two parties would serve as a mechanism for creating opportunities that Nigeria and China share on a wide range of economic issues and trade facilitation.
