Easter: Christian body, President Tinubutask Nigerians on commitment to common good

As Nigerians begin the celebration of Easter, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and President Bola Tinubu have urged leaders at all levels to heed the lessons of Easter and govern with wisdom, fairness and genuine commitment to the common good.

President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, also called on citizens to embody the spirit of Easter in their daily lives and practice sacrificial love toward one another.

Okoh noted that in the midst of daily challenges and triumphs, Easter stood as a timeless reminder about hope, renewal and redemption.
He added that the Easter season also beckoned on all Christians to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made for humanity and the triumph of light over darkness.

“The lessons of Easter hold particular relevance for Nigerian society today.

In a time marked by uncertainty, we are called to embody the virtues of love for one another.

“Just as Christ’s resurrection brought new life and hope to the world, so too can we, as a nation, rise above our differences and difficulties and work towards a brighter future.

“Let us remember that Easter is not merely a time for celebration but a call to action. As leaders, we are charged with the responsibility to bring newness into the system by leading with integrity, compassion and humility.

“As citizens, we are called to stand united in the face of adversity, to extend a hand of friendship to our neighbours and to strive for peace and justice in our communities,” he said.

Okoh also enjoined Nigerians to embody the spirit of Easter in their daily lives and practice sacrificial love toward one another.

“As we commemorate the resurrection of our Lord, let us also renew our dedication to building a nation that reflects positive values,” he said.

According to him, the season should be a time of reflection, renewal and rededication to the principles that hold Nigerians together as a people.

Meanwhile,
President Tinubu joins the Christian faithful to commemorate Easter, a significant moment and a glorious celebration of the triumph of life over death.

The President warmly greets Christians in Nigeria and around the world on this occasion, emphasizing love, sacrifice, and compassion as the patent themes of this solemn season.

President Tinubu notes that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for humanity is an emphatic lesson for leaders and all Nigerians to yield to selflessness and compassion, and be steadfast in the pursuit of a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation.

The President strongly commends Nigerians for the sacrifices they have made in the past few months for the nation to be steered to the path of recovery and sustainable growth, assuring them that the seeds of patience which they have sown are beginning to sprout and will in no time bring forth an abundance of good fruits.

As Christians celebrate the victory of life over death as exemplified by the resurrection of Christ, President Tinubu assures all citizens that Nigeria will triumph over its challenges as his administration remains firmly committed to this end.

The President wishes Nigerians, Happy Easter.
