Nigeria has renewed airstrikes against bandits and criminals that are terrorising North West states.

The action of the Federal government is the
component of “Operation Fansar Yamma sector 2”, to boost fight against banditry.

The Minister of Defence, Mr Mohammed Badaru-Abubakar, who launched the operation on Monday in Katsina, said: “it is a comprehensive joint operation to defeat those who seek to undermine our collective peace, security, stability and prosperity.”

Badaru-Abubakar said that “the scourge of terrorism is not unique to Nigeria, adding that across the Sahel and beyond, countries are all confronting security threats.

“Here in Nigeria, particularly in the North-west, the consequences have been worrisome, with many lives loss, families displaced”.

He said the government’s resolve is to intensify efforts to restore peace to the affected areas and ensure a proper quality life
.
Badaru-Abubakar added that the fight against the criminals in the North-west has been yielding results.

“Your professionalism in every operation is inspiring. Your efforts are yielding results.

“We are seeing positive changes a lot. Gradually, farmers are returning to their farms, children are going back to schools, businesses are reopening and ordinary Nigerians can sleep in peace,” he said.

He, therefore, commended the military for their professionalism and dedication to the fight against the terrorists.

“On behalf of President Bola Tinubu and all Nigerians, I salute your unwavering loyalty, perseverance and professionalism.

“We also recognise the personal sacrifice you make in leaving behind your families and comfort of your office to secure our collective future.

“Together, we will dominate the battle space and achieve victory.

“As you take to the skies, you carry not only weapons, but hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians,” the Minister said.

Badaru-Abubakar reiterated the commitment of the administration to providing the military with all the necessary resources to boost their morale for effective service delivery.

“With induction of those new platforms and with the quality of men and women operating them, I am confident that you will make the President and all Nigerians proud,” he said.

The Minister further urged the Nigerian Air Force to ensure synergy with all components of the operation to achieve the desired goal.

He assured that the government would continue to invest in providing the personnel with modern aircrafts to effectively fight against security threats in the country.

The Minister was accompanied by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall, Hassan Abubakar, and other other top military officers.
